CD-Panhard 3 - Goodwood FoS 2011
The CD-Panhard 3 was built by Charles Deutsch in 1964 to contest the Index of Performance at Le Mans. In an era of burgeoning understanding of automotive aerodynamics, this Panhard staggeringly proved its effectiveness; despite being powered by an 850cc two-stroke flat-twin, its drag coefficient of just 0.12 allowed it to reach 140mph.
Two were built, but sadly neither car finished in what turned out to be Panhard's last works race.
The best thing about these wonderful little cars is that they're fully road legal, wearing tax discs and number plates. Which, if you'd seen one close-up, you'd agree is very silly indeed.
